The Yard at Casalin premieres significant site expansion during Art Basel and showcases the “Rock and a Soft Place” NWSA exhibition

Miami—The Yard at Casalin, an outdoor exhibition space for site-specific work, located in the heart of Wynwood, will highlight the work of New World School of the Arts  Student art at Casa Linfaculty, alumni and college students during Art Basel this year. The exhibition “Rock and a Soft Place” features more than a dozen art works and covers most of the newly expanded grounds of the yard.  The opening reception takes place on Thursday, December 2 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon. The Yard at Casalin is located at 55 NW 30th Street in Wynwood. The show is free, open to the public and will remain open through Art Basel week.

“An unexpected and captivating site, Casalin may seem an unusual setting among the other major galleries in the area showcasing work during Art Basel. Nonetheless, this showing has been celebrated by the Smithsonian, local and national museum directors, and Art Basel aficionados who each year look forward to the cutting-edge work it features. Our students look forward to experimenting with the site since it offers a more dynamic yet flexible space to showcase their work,” stated Maggy Cuesta, dean of the visual arts division at New World School of the Arts.

Set as an urban garden, The Yard at Casalin is one of the most frequented exhibition sites in the area and it has been recognized nationally by Art Basel enthusiasts who each year make it their first stop during  the Wynwood showings. Just a few steps from other major galleries, Casalin boasts luscious yet tranquil and serene landscaping reminiscent of an oasis in the midst of a bustling city. This year, however, the Yard will also be bustling with outstanding cutting-edge exhibitions carefully curated by NWSA faculty and gallery owner Fredric Snitzer.

This unique exhibition site was founded in 2003 by Lin Lougheed to showcase the work of local artists, particularly during Art Basel week. The Yard, however, features permanent exhibitions that can be appreciated 24/7 from the sidewalk adjacent to the intriguing area. With innovative installations and trailblazing performance works, NWSA has been in the forefront of Casalin, consistently showcasing the work of its visual artists, graphic designers, and web designers. Lougheed, a sponsor of the arts and national philanthropist has been instrumental in getting NWSA visual artists highlighted and recognized during Art Basel. To date, New World School of the Arts is the only school to be featured officially listed in the Art Basel International Show delegation package
