Mode of Engagement #2- Connecting water with land
1. I wanted to bring in the connection between land and water, how the both go together perfectly and even help each other coexist yet be two different elements that do different things. I was thinking about waterfalls and how the motion can create walls/barriers/dividers made out of water (whether it would be waterfall or a glass structure) with water constantly flowing down from it. There can be various of these throughout the space towards the trees and areas that people won't normally walk through, maybe even surrounding the space.
2. This falls into the landscape/gardening aspect of our thesis, aesthetically speaking (man made fountains, etc.) and conceptually ties into the connection that nature shares with itself. This can bring a connection between human and nature, alerting the viewer how easily it is to become disconnected yet come back to connection when realization occurs.
3. For some reason Maya Lin's Wavefield reminded me of this idea. This work was inspired by the movement of water, having it be about fluidity. it took a three month study of fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, and turbulence. walking across it is different from viewing it through the window of one of the adjacent classrooms. it changes throughout the day as the sun passes and shadows emerge on different parts of it, achieving the artist's goal to highlight the interconnectedness between art and landscape.
4. This is something that can be done within our time limit if we all planned it out thoroughly and find ways on producing fountains/water obstacles.
Here's a rough example of water curtains throughout the space dividing/creating certain paths for the viewer to walk through
