Invasive Species in Florida

In Florida there are more than 1,300 exotic plant species established and reproducing outside cultivation. The Florida Exotic Pest Plant Council considers about 10 percent of these species invasive in natural areas and posing a significant threat to rare species.

Local Outdoor Performance by Alan Gutierrez! Untitled (rain scene)

September 9th, Friday, 7pm
100 NE 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33132 (Sidewalk)

Untitled (rain scene) is a one-night outdoor performative work by Miami-based artist Alan Gutierrez. Positioned within an environment of production equipment and a special effects crew, the artist will situate himself within a non-narrative and non-linear vignette, open to both a public and pedestrian audience.

Interested in modalities of production which reveal the intersection of reality and theatricality, Gutierrez will create an open "set," resembling similarly to a movie set. The technical production attempts to immerse the audience in an effort- a required effort which will dictate the content, as opposed to the inverse, employing downtown Miami as the backdrop.

ABOUT ALAN GUTIERREZ:
Alan Gutierrez lives and works in Miami, FL. His artistic practice is object, language, and production-based. Recent solo exhibitions include Don't tell someone that you like how they are doing something because they may stop to thank you, Regina Rex (NYC), Nobody knows me better than you, Locust Projects (Miami) and Self-work, Kosmeticsalon Babette (Berlin). Recent performances include Untitled (intermission #1) at Haeler Echo, NYC. Gutierrez also self-publishes Line Script Diary, an ongoing literary project which results in a journal of text-based works by artists, writers, and thinkers. Line Script Diary has been included in numerous programs at venues such as 356 Mission (LA), de la Cruz Collection (Miami), ARCO (Madrid), ICA Miami, and White Flag Projects (St. Louis).

How to post to this blog

Hi Class,

Here are a few guidelines for posting to our project blog.:

  1. Keep it to information directly related to our course.
  2. Be sure to tag (using the labels feature on the right sidebar of the edit window) when you are posting.
  3. Edit/add information to posts instead of making multiple posts on the same subject. Ex. instead of having two (or more) different posts on Richard Long, add all Richard Long info to the first post anyone made on that artist.
  4. Use a title for your posts that will be helpful
  5. In a short paragraph at the top of the post, please state the main idea and connection to our project when posting. This can be a one-liner or a few sentences.
  6. Add hyperlinks to texts and available pdf's on-line.
  7. Don't forget to hit the orange "publish" button when posting.
Below is a list of labels we will use to organize our posts, if there are others that may be appropriate please add them. Use as many labels as are necessary to catalogue your post:

Artists
Collectives
Collaborations
Projects
Sites
Residencies
Institutions
Grant Opportunities
Art Movements
Materials
Texts
Locals Only
Topical Research- this is the place to put any resources that are related to our topic (landscape and site) but have not bee connected directly to the art world. Examples include ecology, landscape design, urban planning, philosophy, cultural geography, etc. Please be sure to write a good summary on how it relates specifically to our project. If things get too broad, it will make it difficult to use this blog for its intended purpose.
