Modes of Engagement: artist reference for climbable structures

Artist Genealogies-

Artists building on the work of other artists happens in two primary ways-
Imitation (repeating what another artist has done. Restating someone else's point)
Innovation (extending beyond what another artist has done. Expanding the conversation).

Innovation happens when: 1) we acknowledge the existence of an art continuum which is constantly building and developing within and against itself. 2) we approach the work of artists engaged (past and present) in our topic of interest as co-conspirators, seeking out things that have not yet been added to the conversation and finding novel ways to present them. This mostly occurs through nuance and rarely in cataclysmic shifts.

We should approach all the artists we bring to the table as co-conspirators. Finding ways to expand the conversation is part of our work. I'm looking foreword to doing that together. OK.....

In relation to the idea of doing something in the tree (which I think could be very dynamic) please look into Gordon Matta-Clark's Tree Dance. I've also included some of his tree drawings. Here is a link to a blogger's review of a retrospective in 2011 of Laurie Anderson, Trisha Brown, Gordon Matta-Clark. They were all active in NYC's downtown art scene (1970s). Here's another review

This is an artist collective called Numen/for use whose work continues the conversation from above. They are obviously interested in connectivity and navigation through space and approach it with reference to the body.  Their work also relates to the conversations regarding agency (of the viewer), performance, and play. All things we have discussed with regards to our project.
