Maya Lin - A history of Water and other exhibitions

This link from the Orlando Museum of Art talks about some of Maya Lin's exhibitions. Although a lot of her work is geared towards environment change, I think her sensitivity to the ecological history of cities is something we should keep in mind, especially since Florida/South Florida is such a unique places ecologically, and also culturally and politically. In a History of Water, Lin makes sculptures resembling the shape of the rivers that runs under Midtown in Manhattan, and other relationships that the city has to bodies of water. The ecology of locations that become metropolitan areas becomes erased by the development of the city itself, which is ironic, as history shows that ecologically flourishing locations were vital to the initial developments of cities (e.g., Cairo, Paris, Shanghai, Rome, Buenos Aires, Mesopotamian cultures, New York, Miami, etc.). Pin River, Kissimmee is piece that she made regarding the history and changes of the Kissimmee River, it could be a good starting to get us to think about our own relationship with the land features of Miami.
